Keeping your equipment checked up regularly is the best thing you can do if you want it to stick around for a long time. Your car needs to be serviced every year; your equipment needs the same.

You should have an inspection performed by a trained professional every 6 months. These professionals know all the tricks and hidden secrets needed to find problems that would be undetectable to anyone else and can perform repairs as they go.

KEEP YOUR EQUIPMENT CLEAN

Giving your equipment a good hose down at the end of the day will not only keep it looking good but will also extend its lifespan immeasurably. A build up of dust, dirt and mud will speed the process of rusting and corrosion. More than that, a clean vehicle makes it a lot easier to spot and deal with leaks, breakages and general wear and tear. If you are going to clean anywhere, make sure to clean out the material that gathers at the top of the tracks. If that hardens and the tracks continue to scrap across it, it can cause damage over time.

OPERATE THE EQUIPMENT PROPERLY

If you want your equipment to last, you need to treat it well. Anyone operating the vehicle should know exactly what they’re doing and know how to treat it with respect. Some tips for whoever is driving the machine is to; should travel no faster than necessary, alternate turning directions, avoid reversing as much as possible, avoid scraping the undercarriage and don’t spin the tracks.

KEEP SPARE PARTS HANDY

If possible, find out which parts are going to need replacing the most often and keep some handy. This way, if you ever need to swap parts out, whether for maintenance or in the event of a breakdown, you won’t be waiting around for the parts to be ordered in.

LUBRICATE OFTEN

One of the best things you can do is keep your machines oiled and lubricated. Your equipment manual will often have information on greasing the vehicle. Generally, your machine should be re-oiled every 8 hours of use. Do your research, there are many kinds of grease. Some are best for hot weather, some for wet conditions. Different parts of the machine may require different types.
